Paint manufacturers can indeed pour highly desirable attributes into each can of their trim paints. New HYDROTECH™ technology is not a traditional acrylic dispersion. It builds on acrylic’s best features, then goes beyond to add significant advantages. And now it’s available with PRIMAL™ HG-1000 hybrid binder.
Apply Smoothly with Greater Open Time A major step forward in open time for water-based trim paints, giving painters about 10 minutes of a wet edge and plenty of time to retouch. Triple the open time of pure acrylic formulations. Achieve smooth painted surfaces after drying without unsightly application marks. Alkyd-like Feel During Application Experienced painters prefer that paints apply smoothly, without brush or roller drag, and with a natural tendency to flow and level into a smooth-as-glass appearance when dry. Solvent-borne paints have in the past delivered these qualities. Now, paints formulated with PRIMAL™ HG-1000 featuring HYDROTECH™ capture the same features but without the VOC emissions and the other disadvantages of a solvent-based solution. Surface Pre-treatments Are a Lot Simpler Paints formulated with HYDROTECH™ technology exhibit excellent re-coatability. Inter-coat bonding is dependable and lasting, and doesn’t require any special scuffing of previously painted surfaces to adhere properly. Curing by air drying is rapid, so applications of additional coats for higher hiding and long lasting protection can be completed more quickly in comparison to solvent-based products. A High Gloss Shine is Built-In with HYDROTECH™ Technology The new hybrid acrylic platform enables a high gloss potential, an attribute critical for many trim painters - previously, this has not been available with traditional acrylic emulsions. The small particle size of the new HYDROTECH™ technology yields gloss measurements over 70 percent at 20 degrees; typical acrylics measure only 55 to 60 percent. Excellent Durability Seals the Selection Paints formulated with PRIMAL™ HG-1000 develop excellent durability as they dry—a desirable benefit of the technology’s acrylic core that Rohm and Haas chemists retained during hybrid polymer design. Based on early assessments, paints with the HYDROTECH™ platform are sturdy and dependable over time, resisting staining, chemicals, ultraviolet light and weather. Post-film cross-linking delivers good hardness and levels off when cured. Solvent-borne alkyds for instance continue to harden, resulting in cracking, particularly on outdoor wood where expansion and contraction occurs. Additionally, alkyds yellow over time – but not HYDROTECH™ technology solutions. |
