Over the years, hundreds of tons of trash have been reclaimed for proper disposal, with the volunteer group commonly collecting as much as 15 to 20 tons of trash during a single four-hour period.
Cool Roof In partnership with the Energy Coordinating Agency and the Community Advisory Committee in Bridesburg – the host community for the Philadelphia plant – Rohm and Haas sponsored a Cool Block. Using Rohm and Haas’s cool-roof technology – a white, acrylic-based reflective coating that reduces the amount of heat absorbed by asphalt roofs during the summer months – Cool Block project planners coated 62 rooftops along a residential block. The primary goal was to reduce the adverse effects of high temperatures in a neighborhood with a large population of senior citizens. In addition a number of households in the Bridesburg section of Philadelphia received energy audits and energy education. The residents felt that the in-home educational sessions were helpful in teaching how to stay cool and save energy and 79% of the homes which received a cool coat said their homes were more comfortable than they had been.
