Employee Fundraisers
Employees at many Rohm and Haas facilities organize social activities, which have the added and valuable benefit of raising money for needy causes. For more than 10 years, a dozen or more employee volunteers from the Rohm and Haas facility at Jarrow—all avid cyclists—ride their bicycles on the 240-mile round-trip between the Rohm and Haas facilities in Jarrow and Grangemouth to raise money for charity. The cyclists select a different beneficiary each year, and raise an average of £5,000 annually.

A Karaoke Night program featuring the musical talents of Rohm and Haas Jarrow employees raised more than £400 to purchase wheelchairs for a nearby hospital ward, and a round-robin football tournament amongst Dewsbury employees raised £250 for a local hospice.

Dr.Heifer International Community Outreach
The environment and its regeneration and sustainable development are cornerstones of Heiffer International-South Africa's mission. It was with great enthusiasm that Dr. Phil Lewis, Vice President, Director Environmental Health Safety and Sustainable Development visited the Kwa-Zulu Natal region of South Africa to speak with and learn from a local community benefiting from Heifer Project South Africa that received contributions from Rohm and Haas.

Most of the Heiffer projects in South Africa rely on hen donations that provide eggs for food and sale. A delicate balance of resources sustains the hens, the family and a vegetable garden. The fertilizer generated by the same hens that lay the eggs for consumption and sale is used to keep the garden growing.

Dr. Phil Lewis expressed the Rohm and Haas philosophy that the Company and the communities where we operate can learn a lot from each other. In his remarks Dr. Lewis explained that while "Rohm and Haas knows about chemistry and economic development, the community (in Kwa-Zulu Natal) knows a lot about its community, farming, the environment and many other things."
