CAC & Town Meetings

Rohm and Haas was one of the first chemical manufacturers to establish Community Advisory Committees (CACs) in 1986, to respond to increasing community awareness and interest around how a manufacturer’s presence in a community impacts economic, social and environmental conditions.

Open DayCACs help foster communication between the management of the facilities and the local community, and provide a better understanding of mutual needs, concerns and expectations. Rohm and Haas CACs are formed at the local level and are supported by plant management; most are guided by an independent facilitator. Each CAC constructs its own bylaws, meeting schedules and agendas.

Committees usually meet several times a year – often monthly – and consist of 12 to 20 members, each with an equal voice. Typically, membership is comprised of residents living near the plant and individuals from local civic associations, area businesses, educational institutions and environmental interest organizations.

In some smaller operating communities, CACs may be difficult to organize and maintain. Communication is nonetheless important, and Rohm and Haas facilities often hold town or community meetings on a regular basis.
