Advanced Technologies

Bringing new and innovative technologies to the market is always an exciting endeavor, particularly when acceptance grows with each new event. At a number of conferences and exhibitions throughout the world, Rohm and Haas is featuring technical innovations that hold great promise for our customers. Those able to attend can learn much during these forums.

Now in its 9th year, the Global Pouch Forum & Technology Exhibition (formerly Stand-Up Pouches Conference) is widely recognized as the world's leading event focused on market trends, technologies, equipment, materials, and processes for stand-up and all pouch formats. So this venue was a natural choice for Rohm and Haas to feature several of its newer, higher performing retort adhesive solutions in both solvent and solventless technologies. Held in Jacksonville in early June, the conference prompted high interest for Rohm and Haas Adcote™ solvent adhesives and Mor-Free™ solventless adhesives among the rapidly growing contingent of converters who have seen pouch popularity spring from food group to food group. Especially interesting to note was widespread mention of the need for 'standards' in order to improve performance and provide food processors with the highest reliability to meet safety demands for this exciting growth market.

Across the globe, flexible packaging is experiencing explosive growth. By overtaking traditional rivals such as metal, paperboard and glass, its superior light-weighting and lower cost are proving too tempting to ignore. Today, over 75% of packagers worldwide already use flexible. With growth rates forecast at over 2.4% per annum over the next five years, Pira's (first) Flexible Packaging Conference in the U.S. proved to be a unique opportunity for Rohm and Haas to ensure that U. S. packaging engineers and production managers fully understand their future view that solventless adhesives are indeed "the most interesting adhesive solution." Held July 19th through 21st in Chicago, the conference generated high attendance and communicated information on solvent-free adhesives-related legislative and environmental concerns, food contact requirements, and maximizing performance with new chemistries. But for those unable to attend, you can access information about exciting new solventless solutions by email to poweratwork@rohmhaas.com.

Contract packaging is widely recognized as one of the hottest outsourcing avenues available today, and its growing importance is recognized with an all-new pavilion during the CPP Expo in Las Vegas this September. Key players in the value chain also have the opportunity to learn something brand new by visiting Rohm and Haas Adhesives and Sealants Business in the AIMCAL Pavilion, booth # 2917B . The company is showcasing new Cold Seal products and new retort adhesives and barrier coatings that take full advantage of proprietary developments available only from Rohm and Haas. Learn more by requesting information on 'New Cold Seal adhesives and barrier coatings' - just email poweratwork@rohmhaas.com.

Those attending this fall's AIMCAL Conference in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina will hear exciting news presented by Nancy Smith, technical marketing manager for Rohm and Haas adhesives. Her paper entitled Cold Seal Adhesiveswill explain technologies behind new, next-generation Cold Seal natural rubber acrylics and synthetic Cold Seal adhesives. The company's new Cold Seal adhesives are of particular interest to confectionary packaging manufacturers. For information, email poweratwork@rohmhaas.com. AIMCAL serves as the global forum for the flexible metallizing, coating and laminating industry by providing resources, services and information. AIMCAL collects and distributes information to increase industry knowledge, while fostering an environment that builds relationships and a spirit of cooperation among member companies worldwide.

Rohm and Haas will be a gold sponsor of Afera's 48th Annual Conference, taking place in Vienna on October 5-8, 2005. This international meeting for the self-adhesive tape industry will include a special presentation by Oliver Nickel, Rohm and Haas European Marketing Manager PSAs, entitled Aqueous Acrylics - European Tape Market Needs and Performance Characteristics. The full conference program is available on the Afera web site http://www.afera.com/confwp2005.html.

Taking place in Milan on October 20th and 21st at the Westin Palace Hotel, the combined Congress Giflex / Fedes will be the site at which Rohm and Haas will introduce several of its newest technologies for flexible packaging. GIFLEX is an Italian Association that brings together producers of printed flexible packaging, using both flexo and rotogravure printing technology. The Group is part of the Italian Manufacturers' Association, as well as the National Association of Printing, Paper and Converting Industries, and belongs to the FPE (Flexible Packaging Europe) through its Fedes Division.

Rohm and Haas will also be participating in the 30th Munich Adhesive and Finishing Symposium 2005, organized by Prof. Dr. K. Nitzl. Dr. Barry Snyder, Global Research Director for Rohm and Haas Adhesives and Sealants, will speak about trends in Aqueous Acrylic Pressure Sensitive Adhesives in the European Graphic Arts market.
