Rohm
and Haas recently announced that it has received
confirmation from ICC Evaluation Services that
its Mor-Melt™ R-5022 hot melt adhesive complies
with all applicable provisions of the 2003 International
Building Code® (IBC), 2003 International Residential
Code® (IRC), and 1997 Uniform Building Code® (UBC).
This confirmation, as evidenced in the ICC-ES evaluation
report ESR-2158, provides guidance to code officials
faced with approving the use of Mor-Melt R-5022
under these codes. The full evaluation report is
available online at http://www.icc-es.org/reports/pdf_files/ICC-ES/ESR-2158.pdf.
Company spokesperson Larry Salcedo, commercial
manager, Structural Adhesives, North America
stated, “By offering this first ICC-listed
reactive hot melt adhesive for panel lamination,
Rohm and Haas is able to assure top bonding performance
for continuous laminating technology for manufacturers
of structural panels. Users expect batch-to-batch
formulation consistency with this moisture-curing
polyurethane reactive hot melt adhesive.” Beta-tests
have confirmed excellent bonding with facings
of plywood, OSB, primed aluminum and steel, wood,
FRP, and cores of expanded and extruded polystyrene,
as well as polyisocyanurate foam and paper honeycomb.
Mor-Melt™ adhesives are produced as 100%
solids, one-component urethane adhesives and
are available in easy-to-store and handle 5-gallon
pails and 55-gallon drums. They can be applied
via roll coater or bead extrusion systems engineered
for handling polyurethane reactive hot melt adhesives.
Compared to other adhesive technologies, bond
strength develops very quickly, thereby allowing
for higher manufacturing throughput and reduced
cost.
Mor-Melt™ R-5022 adhesive is available
throughout North America. To obtain samples for
