Poster Contest Winner: 8th Grade
Having a Ball with Chemistry
Meredith

MEREDITH
8th Grade, PA

Meredith’s favorite sport is…
…lacrosse.  I have a ball playing it because I meet new friends, get to run, and challenge myself.  I love that you have to work hard, but you see progress.

According to Dr. Mario….
"Given the rough nature of the sport of lacrosse, a mouth guard is a very important piece of equipment.  A customized "boil and bite" mouth guard is made from thermoplastic polymers.  These materials soften when they are heated. Dr. Mario The idea is that the athlete can customize the fit of the mouth guard by first immersing it in hot water (making it soft and pliable) and then using their fingers and biting pressure to make a perfect fit in the mouth.  When the mouth guard cools off it subsequently hardens into a customized shape.  Remember that playing safe is as important as playing hard.”

What you've won:
For being selected as the winner for her grade, Meredith wins a Nintendo Wii Bundle purchased from GameStop for up to $400 value.

Your school won, too!
