ROHM AND HAAS TO SHOWCASE
PRODUCT INNOVATION AT TECHTEXTIL 2005

PARIS, FRANCE, February 17, 2005 – Rohm and Haas Company has announced its participation in Techtextil 2005, Europe’s foremost technical textile exhibition, to be held in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, from June 7-9. In keeping with the exhibition’s theme, Focusing on Innovation, Rohm and Haas will feature its new Mor-Melt® R-7001E moisture-curing polyurethane reactive hot melt adhesive, which offers textile laminators outstanding performance and cost advantages. The company will be located at Booth G13 (Hall 3.0).

Technological innovation yields exceptional flexibility
“Unlike many reactive hot melt adhesives,” says Julie Birch, Rohm and Haas commercial manager for textile laminating in Europe, “Mor-Melt R-7001E has exceptional flexibility with a soft hand, resulting in soft, touchable fabrics that drape beautifully. In addition, resistance to high temperature, moisture, and solvents translates into excellent resistance to washing and dry cleaning.” Mor-Melt R-7001E is also noted for tensile strength retention in autoclave or sterilization environments, an important requirement for manufacturers of medical laminates. Its unique properties make it suitable for many demanding applications including outerwear, protective clothing, automotive upholstery and interior trim, and foam bonding.

Ideal for heat-sensitive substrates
Mor-Melt R-7001E is typically applied at temperatures of 100-120ºC, providing significant advantages to textile laminators working with heat-sensitive substrates such as thin, breathable membranes. “Puckering, shrinkage, or destruction of delicate substrates is virtually eliminated,” says Birch. Since laminating at low temperatures is a proven operating advantage, users can expect reduced energy consumption and enhanced worker safety. Mor-Melt R-7001E is composed of 100 percent solids, eliminating any solvents or water to dry out, recover, or burn.

Mor-Melt R-7001E is said to be reminiscent of pressure sensitive adhesives, in that the product develops a high initial bond, reduces production costs by permitting faster line speeds, and exhibits long open-time to prevent material loss during machine stoppages. High bond strengths are particularly important for popular materials such as treated polyethylene and polypropylene.
