Dr. Mai Chen to Speak on Improvements for
Packaging Lamination During Pack Expo
PHILADELPHIA, PA – July 20, 2006 – A presentation by Rohm and Haas senior scientist Dr. Mai Chen during Pack Expo International 2006 will examine the development of the company’s newest water-based acrylic technology for medium performance packaging laminations and its implications for the highly competitive converting market. This environmentally sound technology, which is attracting a great deal of interest among converters seeking to replace solvent-based urethane adhesives, reflects the company’s continuing focus on “planet-friendly ecology and safety” in the development of its adhesives.
Dr. Chen will present data from performance tests comparing the newest water-based acrylic adhesives with selected solvent-based urethane adhesives. Overall, tests comparing the two technologies demonstrated that the newest water-based acrylic adhesives provided adhesion and performance similar to or better than solvent-based urethane adhesives. Specifically, water-based acrylic adhesives exhibited outstanding performance in all areas tested: shear resistance, adhesion to various films, heat seal strength, and heat and moisture resistance.
